Molluscum Contagiosum (WATER WARTS)
It is defined as skin infection caused by Pox virus that results small, painless bumps on the skin. Commonly known as 'water warts'.
The Bumps on the skin caused by virus are small, round, flesh colour and sometime may be itchy and cause irritation.
The condition is very common among children age 1 to 10 years, but it also affect Adults as well.
CAUSES OF MOLLUSCUM CONTAGIOSUM
MOLLUSCUM CONTAGIOSUM is caused by type of Pox virus known as Molluscum contagiosum virus. The transmission can also occur from one part of skin to other parts.
It is contaminated from infected person to others.
SPREAD -
- Direct - Mollascum contagiosum spread to Direct skin to skin contact.
- Contamination - Touching the surface contaminated with poxvirus such as toys, towels clothes etc.
- Physical contact with the person that is infected with Mollascum Contagiosum virus.
- Weak immunity - Virus mainly affects the people with weak immune system and these people have high risk of acquiring this infection.
Symptoms -
- Character- Some small, round, painless, flesh colour papules that can occur on face, neck, back and anywhere on your skin
- Size- The size of papules could be between 1 mm to 5 mm in diameter.
- Site- most common site infected with this virus is Face, chin, armpit, neck and back. In adults, it affect on genitals, lower abdomen and inner thighs.
- Itching may be present and scratching the eruption leads to spread of virus to the nearby skin.
- These eruptions usually takes 6 to 18 months to disappear
- In person with low immunity these lesion may last as long as four to five years
